MANILA – De La Salle University Lady Archers captured its fourth straight title while National University Bulldogs claimed the men’s crown at the close of the UAAP Season 80 table tennis tournament at the UP CHK Gym.
The Lady Archers completed the four-peat in the women’s table tennis after defeating the University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses in three games in best-of-three championship series.
After dropping the championship opener, 2-3, that ended a 14-game winning run, the Lady Archers was able to bounce back in the next two to beat the Golden Tigresses via identical 3-1 scores to win the series.
Emy Rose Dael, who took over from graduated Ian Lariba, won her second straight MVP award while giving Jamaica Sy and Mardeline Carreon a grand send-off to their UAAP careers.
In the men’s table tennis division, NU Bulldogs won its first-ever men’s championship, ending UST Growling Tigers’ reign with a 3-1 victory in the Finals decider to annex the crown.
It was a double celebration for NU as its Bullpups team won the back-to-back titles in boys’ juniors event after blanking UST in the do-or-die match, 3-0, with Stephen John Deiz emerging as MVP.
UST’s girls’ team, meanwhile, completed a perfect season girls juniors capped by a 3-1 conquest of De La Salle-Zobel./PN
