MANILA – The Department of Health (DOH) has echoed the suggestion of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) to wear face mask even at home.
DOH undersecretary Ma. Rosario Vergeire said the wearing of face mask inside the house is a must especially if a family member has symptoms of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) or part of the vulnerable population.
The vulnerable population refers to senior citizens, people with pre-existing medical conditions, or with compromised immune system.
“Wearing a face mask and other (personal protective equipment) PPEs can reduce a person’s risk of COVID-19 transmission by at least 85 percent,” Vergeire said in a virtual press conference yesterday.
On Sunday, DILG Secretary Eduardo Año said that household members should wear face mask and PPE at home because COVID-19 transmission is now through families, a suggestion that drew flak from netizens at social media./PN
