BACOLOD City – A 60-year-old driver faces charges for alleged illegal transport of timbers in Barangay 1, La Carlota City, Negros Occidental.
The suspect was identified as Jose Zaldy Lagunday of Barangay Ma-ao, Bago City, Negros Occidental.
He was caught at a police checkpoint around 6:40 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 4.
Authorities flagged down his truck loaded with around 10 tons of mahogany and Indian mango tree timbers with an estimated value of P14,000.
The suspect was arrested after he failed to present the proper documents for transporting the timbers.
He was detained at the La Carlota City police station, facing charges for violation of the Forestry Reform Code of the Philippines./PN
