Drug suspect caught hiding in cornfield

BACOLOD City – Police arrested a man who tried to evade arrest in a drug buy-bust operation in Barangay Candau-ay, Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental.

The 23-year-old Rodrigo Baniel of Barangay Cadawinonan, Dumaguete City was found hiding in a cornfield around 4:30 p.m. on Jan. 23, a police report showed.

Baniel allegedly sold a sachet of suspected shabu to a poseur-buyer for P500 earlier that day.

Antidrug personnel from the Dumaguete City police station staged the sting operation.

A total of 15 grams of suspected shabu contained in six sachets were recovered from Baniel.

The suspected illegal drugs were valued at around P102,000, police said.

Aside from the suspected shabu, drug paraphernalia and P600 cash believed to be proceeds from illegal drug transactions were also confiscated from the suspect.

Baniel, detained in the lockup cell of the Dumaguete City police station, was facing charges for violation of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002./PN
