TEN CONTINGENTS showcased their locality’s rich heritage, culture and traditions in yesterday’s Kasadyahan regional cultural competition, one of the highlights of the Dinagyang Festival.
Homegrown festivals from Antique, Guimaras, Iloilo, Capiz, and Negros wowed spectators with vibrant costumes, props and well-executed choreographies.
The performances were a peak into the ingenuity, craftsmanship and artistry of the Ilonggos that will be on full show in today’s dagyang tribes competition.
The Kasadyahan cultural contest was conceptualized by local residents and the provincial government of Iloilo a few years after the birth of Dinagyang Festival. But it actually started as out as mardi gras. The participants were schools and private organizations.
Through the years, Kasadyahan has evolved into a kaleidoscopic view of dazzling culture and customs of the different participating towns, cities and provinces.
It helps in strengthening the integrity of Iloilo and also in preserving the generations-old folk traditions./PN
