ILOILO City – A consultant at the Office of the President was designated regional director of the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) in Western Visayas.
Jose Roberto Roa Nuñez replaced Rosario Cabrera, who has retired from the government service.
Nuñez, who hailed from Cebu, officially took over the OCD Region 6 post during a turnover ceremony in Smallville 21 hotel at Smallville entertainment complex in Mandurriao district on Friday.
Speaking before regional heads of government agencies, Nuñez thanked President Rodrigo Duterte and Undersecretary Ricardo B. Jalad, OCD administrator, for their trust and confidence in his capacity to lead the OCD-6.
He acknowledged that he is new in the job and would need help from his colleagues and the local sectors.
“I trust that with your cooperation and guidance, we will be able to accomplish the mandate of the office,” Nuñez said.
Aside from being a technical service consultant at the Office of the President, Nuñez also served at the Office of the Presidential Assistant for Visayas under Michael Lloyd Dino prior to his designation at the OCD-6.
The OCD is the implementing arm of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.
Its primary task is to administer a comprehensive national civil defense and disaster risk reduction and management program by leading the development of strategic and systematic approaches and measures to reduce vulnerabilities and risks to hazards and manage the consequences of disasters.
“I will continue whatever program that may be sustained,” Nuñez said. “We will tap all local government units to help us during disasters and equip them with more knowledge on what to do.”
He also said he will seek help from the local press in information dissemination./PN
