MANILA – President Rodrigo Duterte made a surprise inspection at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 2 following flight delays and cancellations due to a lightning alert.

Malacañang said Duterte made the inspection on Monday apologizing to passengers for the inconvenience caused by the disruptions.

“President Duterte talked to the airline and NAIA officials regarding the cancellations and delays to know whether there are flight diversions and if affected passengers are given incentives to ease their inconvenience,” the Palace said.

“The President has apologized to the passengers affected by the disruptions and he has vowed to come up with a remedy within a month,” it added.

Duterte was briefed by a Philippine Airlines manager and a NAIA-Terminal 2 airport duty manager on the flight woes and explained the actions being undertaken to normalize the situation.

Duterte discussed with officials how flight aberrations could be minimized and what actions could be employed by the government, particularly the Department of Transportation, to solve the problem in the long term.

Among those present during his inspection were Manila International Airport Authority general manager Ed Monreal, Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines director general Capt. Jim Sydiongco, Leyte representative Martin Romualdez, and Davao businessman Sammy Uy. /PN
