MANILA – President Rodrigo Duterte has appealed to all business establishments not to take advantage of the onslaught of Typhoon “Rolly” and should keep the prices of basic goods and commodities stable.
During his situational briefing on Sunday, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said in the spirit of “bayanihan,” businesses should not exploit victims of the typhoon.
“Ang pakiusap po ng Presidente sa panahon po ngayon ng aberya, sana po bayanihan. ‘Yung ating mga nagbebenta ng mga kailangan ng ating mga kababayan, sana naman po huwag pagsamantahalahan,” Roque said.
The Palace spokesperson added that the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) is monitoring the compliance of retail industries with the suggested retail prices of basic goods.
“Ayon sa DTI, generally, price and supply of basic commodities and prime commodities remain stable,” Roque said. “Mino-monitor ang mga ito ng DTI para siguraduhin na masusunod ang suggested retail price.”
Section 6 of Republic Act 7581 or the Price Act of 1992 states that prices of basic necessities in an area shall automatically be frozen at their prevailing prices or placed under automatic price control whenever the area is proclaimed or declared a disaster area or under a state of calamity./PN
