BACOLOD City – Councilors asked the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office to detail emergency response teams at MassKara festival sites.
The annual celebration has three festival sites, or venues of major activities and where revelers, locals and tourists alike, are expected to flock from Oct. 1 to 22.
These are the Tourism Strip on Lacson Street, the city public plaza and the Bacolod City Government Center (city hall).
Emergency response teams shall attend to emergency and other untoward situations if they occur, said Councilor Em Ang, author of the Sangguniang Panlungsod-approved resolution making the request.
Detailing emergency responders at festival sites will “maximize response time” during dire situations, the councilor said.
Local government units (LGUs) have the obligation to “ensure and support, among other things, the preservation and enrichment of culture” and “promote health and safety,” Ang said in her resolution, citing Section 16 of Republic Act 7160, or the Local Government Code.
Moreover, LGUs must also “enhance economic prosperity and social justice … maintain peace and order, and preserve the comfort and convenience of their inhabitants,” read part of the resolution./PN
