BACOLOD City – Playing with a firearm got a 16-year-old boy killed in Barangay Matab-ang, Talisay City, Negros Occidental, police said.

Superintendent Adonis Rosales, Talisay City police chief, identified the victim as Grade 10 student Adam Joshua Mananquil.

Police said the incident was accidental firing.

Mananquil sustained a gunshot wound on the stomach. He was taken to the Talisay City Health Office for treatment but was later pronounced dead.

He was with his friends Robert Gregorio Tamo, 21, Rommel Plaga, 20, and Agustin Arceño Alitao, 14, at the store of Anna Tumayao when the incident happened at around 8:40 p.m. on Tuesday, police said.

Mananquil was removing and putting bullets into the .22 pistol while using his cellphone, said the police. His grandfather, John Retio, turned over the gun to the police. It was not immediately clear who owned the weapon./PN
