ENVIROKONSULT Equipment and Services Inc., in partnership with the local government unit (LGU) of Leganes, Iloilo, inaugurated the first fully mechanized wastewater treatment facility in Western Visayas. This milestone project introduces a comprehensive Septage Management Program that includes census, desludging, treatment, and documentations using Department of Health (DOH)- and Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR)-approved technologies and services.
Located in Barangay Nabitasan, Leganes, the new septage treatment plant boasts a daily capacity of 100 cubic meters, with plans to expand up to 200 cubic meters. The facility will serve various residential, commercial, industrial, and government establishments in nearby cities and municipalities such as Iloilo City, Sta. Barbara, Dumangas, Pavia, and Oton, as well as other LGUs within a 50-kilometer radius. Services under the Sipsip Poso Negro, Suyod Barangay, and Sagip Kalikasan Programs will ensure the efficient handling of septage across the region.
FDr. Anthony V. In compliance with the Clean Water Act (Republic Act 9275), DILG Memorandum Circular 2019-62, and local ordinances, LGUs are mandated to ensure that septic tanks are desludged every 3 to 5 years. Septic waste must be processed in a DOH-certified treatment facility, a key aspect addressed by the new plant in Leganes.
Mayor Vicente Jaen of Leganes hailed the projectās impact on the community, stating, “This project doesn’t just benefit Leganes, it will have a significant impact across the province of Iloilo. Itās a major step toward our compliance with the Clean Water Act.”
