Escalante City detainee dies

BACOLOD City – A detainee in the Escalante City police station jail has passed away.

Rajie Bacaron Yap, 20, reportedly died of acute respiratory failure at the city’s Dr. Vicente Gustilo District Hospital around 12:45 p.m. on May 7.

According to Police Lieutenant Colonel Gil John Despi, chief of the Escalante City police station, Yap was brought to the hospital on May 6 due to stomach pain. He was discharged around 9:40 p.m.

The following morning, Despi added, the detainee was rushed to the hospital again due to continued pain. He was confined and later expired.

Yap – a resident of the city’s Barangay Washington – was arrested for the crime of frustrated homicide./PN
