ILOILO City – “I am not allowing anyone to use my name.”
Acting Mayor Jose Espinosa said anyone namedropping him should be arrested.
Over the weekend, someone who figured in a commotion at Smallville entertainment and leisure complex in Barangay San Rafael, Mandurriao district claimed he was an Espinosa when chided by responding policemen.
“Kon ako to, sia unahon ko dakpon (If I were the responding policeman, I would have arrested that person),” said Espinosa.
The acting mayor said nobody should invoke his name, most especially in crimes.
“Anybody can namedrop. This is a warning to all,” said Espinosa yesterday.
Espinosa started exercising the full function of city mayor – including the control and supervision of the police – on Oct. 11 after Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog extended his leave of absence.
Mabilog was stripped of authority over the city police in August last year after President Rodrigo Duterte tagged him a drug protector.
“I will stick to what is provided for by law. Ang akon lang ‘ya, I am assuming (the full function of mayor) because of the provisions of the Local Government Code,” said Espinosa.
With “full power”, Espinosa said he could better manage the city, especially its peace and order situation./PN
