ILOILO City – A total of 53 students from various high schools in the metropolis have been “managing” city hall since Oct. 23 in celebration of Boys’ and Girls’ Week.
Acting Mayor Jose Espinosa III said the activity aims to prepare the youth for public service.
The students will be “running” city hall until Oct. 28.
“This program is good. Students are given the chance to know how we run the city government on a daily basis,” said Espinosa.
The students have been assigned to be the counterparts of department heads, head of offices and city councilors.
Matthew Ledesma of PAREF Westbridge School Inc. was chosen as boy city mayor. He vowed to perform his duties well.
This gives us the chance to be actual leaders of this city and country,” said Ledesma.
His vice mayor is Sebastian Mickel Evidente of Colegio de San Jose.
“Through this initiative, we can also learn from these students because they will have their own outputs and these outputs will serve as suggestions for us on how we can further improve our operations in the city government,” said Espinosa.
Boys’ and Girls’ Week celebration is in partnership with the Rotary Club of Iloilo City and Rotary International District 3850.
“I would like to commend the Rotary Club of Iloilo City for this wonderful project of giving students like me this opportunity to be in the seat of city leaders,” said Ledesma. (Iloilo City PIO/PN)
