ILOILO City – Two multimillion-peso infrastructure projects – the Iloilo Esplanade 1 Extension and the Nabitasan-San Rafael Bypass Road – were inaugurated yesterday.
Aside from helping people navigate the city better, these projects will also help attract more investors and tourists, according to Ilonggo senator Franklin Drilon, one of the government officials who led the inauguration.
The Department of Public Works and Highways Region 6 undertook the projects.
Others present at the inauguration were Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog, Public Works secretary Mark Villar, Rep. Jerry Treñas, and other city government officials.
The P40.253-million Iloilo Esplanade 1 Extension involved the construction of a 200-lineal meter walkway from the Iloilo Bridge to the recently completed Nabitasan Bridge.
A skating rink, viewing decks and boating station for recreation, as well as an underpass connected to Iloilo Esplanade 1 were also built.
Meanwhile, the P134.91-million Nabitasan-San Rafael Bypass Road involved the construction of a 834-lineal meter, four-lane, two-way access road connecting the Iloilo-Jaro Diversion Road (service road) in Barangay San Rafael, Mandurriao district and the Jalandoni Bridge in Barangay Nabitasan, La Paz.
This road was expected to save travel time by about 10 to 15 minutes by providing access from Iloilo-Jaro Diversion Road to the downtown area via Jalandoni Bridge without passing General Luna Street.
Also included in this road project was a 90-lineal meter Type IV-B bridge on reinforced concrete pile foundation, reinforced concrete pipe culverts, slope protection, concrete lined canal, and pavement markings./PN
