MANILA – Former collegiate standouts Kiefer Ravena and brothers Jeron and Jeric Teng are set to lead the Chooks To Go-Gilas Pilipinas in the FIBA Asia Champions Cup from Sept. 22 to 30 in Chenzhou, China.
PBA players Norbert Torres and Al Francis Tamsi of TNT KaTropa, Carl Bryan Cruz of Alaska Aces, and LA Revilla of Kia Picanto are also in the lineup.
Gilas cadets Almond Vosotros, Raymar Jose and Anton Manuel are in the team, too, while Gabriel Banal and Andre Paras are reserves.
Former NBA prospect Isaiah Austin and Congolese Rodrigue Ebondo of Centro Escolar University Scorpions may serve as reinforcements. They have yet to secure their visas as of this writing.
Vincent “Chot” Reyes is the head coach.
In this same tournament, Philippine ballclubs Apcor ruled in 1981, Northern Cement in 1984, Swift-PABL in 1988, Andok’s in 1995, and Hapee Toothpaste in 1996.
Other club teams joining the tournament are Dacin Tigers of Chinese-Taipei, TBD of Japan, Al Riyadi of Lebanon, Al Ahli of United Arab Emirates, PetroChimi of Iran, ONGC of India, Mono Vampire of Thailand, BC Astana of Kazakhstan, Sarreyet Ramallah of Palestine, and China Kashgar.
Curiously, playing for the defending champion China is Gilas Pilipinas naturalized center Andray Blatche, who helped the team’s campaign last year with 20 points, 10 rebounds and four assists on average.
The participating teams will be divided in Groups A and B, with each team playing all those in its group in the preliminary round. The top four in both groups will qualify in the quarterfinals./PN
