ILOILO City – A house in Barangay Poblacion, Concepcion, Iloilo was raided on Saturday and a former seafarer was arrested.

The 57-year-old Victor Carrera was taken to the Concepcion police station. Policemen recovered from his house a .45 pistol with magazine and nine ammunitions, expired firearm licenses for a CZ 7.62 rifle, a Deseag .45 pistol, a .22 rifle, a .9mm pistol and an Armscor .45 pistol.

“He had five expired gun licenses but the firearms were not in his house. He reportedly pawned them to some individuals but he refused to give names. A.45 pistol we recovered had no license that was why we arrested him,” said Chief Inspector Jonathan Pinuela, intelligence officer of the Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO).

Carrera faces a charge for violation of the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.

The raid was carried out around 2:30 p.m. The search warrant was issued by Judge Rogelio Amador of the Regional Trial Court, Branch 66.

According to Pinuela, the suspect was a former oil rig superintendent of a company in Jakarta, Indonesia.

The IPPO sought a search warrant from the court after receiving complaints from Carrera’s neighbors.

Carrerao would fire his guns whenever he got drunk, neighbors told the police.

Pinuela said the IPPO is campaigning against loose firearms particularly in the 5th District of Iloilo where Concepcion belongs.

Aside from illegal drugs, goons were also a problem in the 5th District, Chief Superintendent Cesar Hawthorne Binag, regional police director, previously said.

This was the reason why the Police Regional Office 6’s (PRO-6) campaign against illegal drugs and criminality would be given more emphasis in the northern Iloilo district, he stressed.

The 5th District is made up of the municipalities of Ajuy, Balasan, Barotac Viejo, Batad, Carles, Concepcion, Estancia, Lemery, San Dionisio, San Rafael, and Sara.

According to Binag, the PRO-6 had received text messages about the illegal drug problem in the district and the criminal gangs operating in the area./PN
