ILOILO City – A junk shop truck driver filed criminal charges of grave threats, physical injuries and robbery against former Iloilo vice governor Roberto “Obet” Armada with the Office of the City Prosecutor.
Docketed as Case V1-10-INV-17A-00005, the complainant is Alfonso T. Saladan of JV Jocson Street, Arevalo district.
In his judicial affidavit, Saladan related an incident on Dec. 29, 2016 in Barangay Tacas, Jaro district. He claimed he was pistol-whipped and mauled by a “a big stout man” he later identified to be Armada.
“I was moving slowly when I heard someone (Armada) on my right side murmuring, “Kon masag-idan mo gani ako karon andaman mo gid,” according to Saladan’s affidavit.
Hearing what Armada shouted to him, Saladan said he gave way to the Toyota Wigo, a car driven by Armada himself. Then the latter stopped in front of his truck, alighted and opened the left door of his truck, “and hit me with a pistol, hitting me on the left eye.”
“After hitting me with a pistol and with several fist blows he threatened to kill me by saying, ‘Adaman mo kon manugid ka sa radyo papatay ta ka (Be careful. If you report to the radio I will have you killed),” the complainant stated in his affidavit.
Saladan further claimed that Armada took away his driver’s license.
In a medical certificate issued by the West Visayas State University Medical Center on Dec. 29, 2016 and signed by Dr. Edison John Harion, Saladan suffered “multiple soft tissue injury with soft tissue swelling left supraorbital area secondary to alleged mauling.”
During a hearing before City Prosecutor II Lyna B. Brotarlo-Pasco on Jan. 27, 2017 respondent Armada was present but he failed to submit his counter-affidavit.
“Ang malain gid kay indi ako maka-drive kag makatrabaho kay wala ako lisensya. Hasta subong ara pa kay Armada ang akon driver’s license (The sad thing is that until now I cannot drive or work because I have no driver’s license. It is still in Armada’s possession),” Saladan said in an interview by Panay News.
Panay News tried to contact the former vice governor for his comments, but he could not be reached as of press time.
Armada was elected Iloilo vice governor in 2001 and reelected in 2004./PN
