MANILA – F2 Logistics Cargo Movers cruised to a 25-18, 23-25, 25-20, 25-16 victory over Foton Tornadoes in the 2018 Philippine Superliga Grand Prix on Saturday night at the Muntinlupa Sports Center.
Reigning MVP Maria Jose Perez of Venezuela led the way with 25 points, on 22 attacks and two blocks, while fellow import Kennedy Bryan had a 17-hit effort for the defending champion.
Kim Fajardo also drained six of Cargo Movers’ 13 service aces to help the team (5-1) tighten its grip on the No. 2 spot.
“Our target is to have a strong start. I’m glad that we managed to accomplish that,” said Cargo Movers interim coach Arnold Laniog. “We know that they (Foton) are tall, so we forced them to work for their first ball by coming up with strong services.”
With Foton threatening to mount a comeback in the fourth frame, F2 turned to its veterans Charleen Cruz, who tallied back-to-back aces, and Ilongga Aby Maraño to complete the victory.
Imports Brooke Kranda and Elizabeth Wendel knocked down 17 and 16 points, respectively, for Foton, which suffered its fourth defeat in six matches.
In the other match, Cignal HD Spikers snapped its two-game skid with a 25-21, 25-18, 25-20 straight-set win over sister team Smart Prepaid Giga Hitters to lift its record to 3-3.
Jeane Horton and Sonja Milanovic conspired in the attack zone to finish with 16 points apiece for HD Spikers. Gyzelle Silva paced Giga Hitters (0-6) with 22 points./PN
