BACOLOD City – A 54-year-old man has been charged with homicide for allegedly stabbing his daughter-in-law to death following a domestic altercation that also claimed the life of his soldier son in Barangay 3 here on July 12.
The homicide complaint was filed Tuesday, July 14, before the City Prosecutor’s Office against the suspect, identified only by the alias “Edwin,” a resident of Barangay Banago.
Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) Director Col. Eugene Rebadomia said the complaint stemmed from the death of 26-year-old Leonora, who was allegedly stabbed by her father-in-law during the incident at Purok Tilapia.
Police identified the other fatality as Private First Class Erwin Paul Pendon, 31, who was assigned to the Philippine Army’s 11th Infantry Battalion.
Initial investigation by Police Station 2 showed that the couple figured in a heated argument at around 5:13 p.m.
Earlier reports indicated that Pendon had taken his own life by shooting himself with his service firearm. However, police said a follow-up investigation established that his death resulted from an accidental discharge and not suicide.
Investigators said the second shot fired from the pistol struck the soldier in the head.
Police said that upon seeing his son lying on the floor, the suspect allegedly grabbed a knife and stabbed Leonora in the back.
Both victims were rushed to a hospital but were declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.
The suspect later voluntarily surrendered to Police Station 2 and is now facing a homicide complaint before the City Prosecutor’s Office./PN
