BACOLOD City – A consultative forum on federalism was held yesterday at the Bacolod Pavillon Hotel.
Assistant secretary Romulo Arugay of the Presidential Legislative Liason Office led the event.
“I am very positive that we will have a new form of government in due time. Drastic changes are about to come,” Arugay said during the forum.
President Rodrigo Duterte wants to transform the current Philippine unitary form of government into a federal one.
Arugay presented during the forum that the federal form of government they were eyeing comprises 18 federal states, one of these was the Negros Island.
But Arugay said it was not final. The proposal will still be deliberated in the Congress, he explained.
Consultative forums were also conducted in the cities of Dumaguete, Cebu and Makati and in the province of Cagayan de Oro.
Arugay said they are planning to hold the same forum in Lipa City, Vigan, Ilocos Sur, and Baguio.
Participants were from the local government, business, academe, youth, media, and other sectors, said Mayor Evelio Leonardia./PN
