ILOILO City – Competition for entry into the Philippine National Police (PNP) in Western Visayas has reached an intense level as more than 2,200 applicants are now vying for only 300 available slots under the 2025 Attrition Recruitment Program of the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6).

The figure means that only about 13.61 percent of the total applicants are expected to qualify, reflecting the PNP’s increasingly stringent standards in its recruitment and selection process.

According to Police Brigadier General Josefino Ligan, regional director of PRO-6, the high turnout of applicants underscores the strong public trust and continued desire of young Filipinos to join the police force.

“This only shows that many young Filipinos still view police service as a noble and honorable profession. We commend their enthusiasm and commitment to public service,” said Ligan.

The Attrition Recruitment Program is intended to replenish the ranks of personnel who left the service due to retirement, resignation, dismissal, or death — ensuring that the PNP maintains its operational strength and efficiency.

Applicants are subjected to a rigorous multi-stage screening process that includes physical agility tests, neuro-psychiatric evaluations, medical and dental examinations, drug tests, and thorough background checks to determine their fitness for the job.

Ligan assured the public that the recruitment process will remain transparent and merit-based.

“We assure the public that the recruitment process is merit-based and transparent. Only those who meet the standards and demonstrate the right character, capability, and commitment to serve will be accepted,” he emphasized.

The 300 qualified recruits will later be deployed to strengthen police visibility and law enforcement efforts across Western Visayas — bolstering PRO-6’s continuing campaign to sustain peace, order, and public safety in the region./PN
