CAPIZ – Eleven establishments were totally razed by fire in Barangay Poblacion, Tapaz, Capiz, around 10:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 23.
The Bureau of Fire Protection-Tapaz estimated the total cost of damage at P600,000.
The stores were owned by Rogelio Apruebo, Arnold Galagate, Margie Galagate, Milagros Fito, Joselyn Hiloriao, Sandy Santiago, Ralph Fito, Mary Grace Atienza, certain Myrna, certain Verginia, certain Glen, and certain Jeng Artuz.
Three other establishments were partially damaged.
According to Senior Fire Officer Jesus Abucay, Municipal Fire Marshal, most of the stores were made of light materials; thus, the fire rapidly crept through other structures.
The fire reached the third alarm, and firetrucks from the nearby towns of Bingawan, Jamindan, Dumarao and Dumalag responded.
The firefighting lasted for two hours.
It was unclear where the fire originated. Investigation is ongoing.
Meanwhile, Tapaz mayor Roberto Palomar ordered the Municipal Engineering Office to find a place for the construction of a water tank so responders could get water supply quickly in case of a fire. (With a report from Brigada News FM)/PN
