ILOILO City – First Lady Louise “Liza” Araneta Marcos is qualified to teach at the College of Law of West Visayas State University (WVSU) here, said Mayor Jerry Treñas.
“I do not see any problem with her teaching. Qualified man sya,” the city mayor stressed.
News about Marcos teaching Criminal Law subject at the university was met with mixed reactions.
The WVSU Student Council and several students of its College of Law oppose the First Lady’s impending entry to the school as law professor. But there are also Ilonggos who welcome the idea of her being a law professor.
According to Treñas, he personally knew the First Lady and was with her when she took up college at the Ateneo-Loyola and later at the Ateneo Law School.
“During the campaign for the recent May elections, she called me up and mentioned about teaching here at that time,” said Treñas.
“Para sa akon, kon magtudlo sya, seguro advantage man para sa aton. May makit-an sya basi nga kinahanglan sang university or basi kinanglan man sang syudad, mahutikan ya pa iya bana,” added Treñas.
After all, he said, the elections were over.
“We have to accept the fact that for next six years President (Ferdinand) Marcos will be in power and we will have to coordinate with him and his administration for whatever needs we have for the country,” the city mayor added./PN
