ILOILO City – A fishing boat capsized in the waters of Barangay Buyo, Jordan, Guimaras yesterday morning. The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) rescued four fishermen.
Joint teams of PCG substations in Iloilo and Guimaras rescued boat captain Melvic Pompirada, 37, and crewmen Joe Russel Sumagaysay, 20; Melfred Pomperada, 28; and Emilio Pompirada, 32.
All the men were residents of Miraculous Zone 6, Barangay Calumpang, Molo district.
They went fishing on board MBCA Jonie and Juvin around 11 p.m. Monday near the anchorage area of a foreign vessel in Jordan, Guimaras.
Their boat capsized after throwing fishing net into the sea, according to Chief Petty Officer Roque Borja, PCG-Iloilo Fishing Port Complex substation commander.
The fishermen were able to hold tightly on their capsized boat until morning.
Around 8 a.m. yesterday, PCG-Iloilo received a call from St. Rafael Uno informing the station about the capsized boat it spotted.
The rescued fishermen were brought to the PCG substation at the Iloilo Fishing Port. They looked tired after staying in the seawater for about nine hours.
Borja said the fishermen did not have injuries and were sent home after resting for a while. (PNA/PN)
