BACOLOD City — Five individuals were arrested in separate anti-illegal drug and illegal gambling operations conducted by the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) on September 16.
Two suspects were arrested in separate buy-bust operations, with police seizing more than P71,000 worth of suspected shabu. Three others were apprehended for allegedly participating in the illegal coin game “cara y cruz.”
The operations were conducted under the directive of BCPO City Director Police Col. Eugene N. Rebadomia as part of the police office’s continuing campaign against illegal drugs and gambling in the city.
The first drug operation was conducted by Police Station 2 (PS2) at around 5:50 p.m. in Purok Narra Baybay, Barangay 8.
Police arrested a 21-year-old suspect identified by the alias “Marvin” and recovered four sachets of suspected shabu weighing about five grams and valued at approximately P34,000.
A P500 buy-bust payment was also recovered from the suspect.
At around 8:53 p.m., the City Drug Enforcement Unit conducted a second buy-bust operation in San Mateo Village, Barangay Banago, resulting in the arrest of a 48-year-old suspect known by the alias “Toto.”
Police seized nine sachets of suspected shabu weighing about 5.5 grams and valued at P37,400. They also recovered P500 in marked money, a coin, and P900 in cash allegedly representing proceeds from illegal drug transactions.
Both suspects were detained at PS2 and PS3, respectively, and are facing complaints for alleged violations of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
Meanwhile, three men were arrested at around 11:06 p.m. in Purok Malipayon, Barangay 12, for allegedly participating in an illegal “cara y cruz” game.
The suspects were identified by their aliases “Hester,” 36, of Barangay 12; “Joy,” 25, of Barangay Pahanocoy; and “Heart,” 23, a native of Iloilo City who was temporarily residing in Barangay 12.
Police confiscated three coins allegedly used in the game and P239 in cash believed to have been used as betting money.
The three suspects were brought to Police Station 1 and are facing complaints for alleged violation of Presidential Decree 1602, which penalizes illegal gambling.
The operations are part of the BCPO’s continuing efforts to enforce laws against illegal drugs and gambling and maintain peace and order in Bacolod City./PN
