BACOLOD City – Flower vendors at the public plaza are appealing against the city government’s plan to relocate them.
Pacito Macatigos, vice president of the Bacolod Public Plaza Flower Vendors Association, said the flowers that they sell will not last for days should they be transferred behind the Bacolod BAYS Center where there are no trees.
Macatigos added that the shade of the trees at the public plaza prevents their flowers from withering immediately.
With the trees’ shade, their flowers can last up to three days, said Macatigos.
There are 19 flower vendors doing business at the public plaza.
The city government plans to transfer them within this month, according to City Administrator John Orola.
Orola added that they are only waiting for Mayor Evelio Leonardia’s instruction when will the transfer be.
Last month, the city council approved a resolution requesting the Mayor’s Office to order – through the City Legal Office – the transfer of the flower vendors.
The relocation will pave the way for the City Engineer’s Office to fully implement the beautification project at the plaza, said resolution proponent Councilor Em Ang.
The relocation would only be temporary as the city government is still looking for a place where to permanently put the vendors, said Orola.
Orola added that kiosks will be set up at the temporary relocation site to house the vendors./PN
