BACOLOD City – Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Councils (BADACs) must be functional, according to Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) undersecretary for barangay affairs Martin Diño.
“Dahil kung hindi, meron kayong haharapin na mga penalty from DILG,” Diño warned about 6,000 barangay officials who attended the Anti-Drug Summit 2018 in Victorias City, Negros Occidental on Sunday.
He added, “Nakabantay kami. Nakabantay ang DILG ngayon.”
Diño said the new barangay officials must fulfill their promises during the campaign period to fight illegal drugs.
“When you were campaigning, you promised ‘heaven and earth’ to your constituents to protect them from illegal drugs and criminality. Ngayon, panindigan niyo ang inyong pinangako, especially in barangays which have many reported drug pushers and drug addicts,” he stressed.
The new officials must submit their BADAC reports to the DILG two months after they assumed office on June 30, Diño added.
“We filed cases for dereliction of duty before the Office of the Ombudsman against those who previously failed to submit. We will do it again,” he said. “We might even submit their names to the President to speed up their suspension if they have fail to submit.” (With a report from PNA/PN)
