BACOLOD City – Several delegates to the Philippine Councilors League (PCL) 2nd Quarterly National Executive Officers and National Board Meeting in this city were left with no place to stay the night.
With rooms in accommodation establishments fully booked, some councilors in nearby local governments chose to spend the evening back home and just come back to attend the activities lined up during the day.
The National Meeting hosted by the local governments of Negros Occidental and Bacolod City was scheduled from June 14 to 16 at the SMX Convention Center.
PCL-Bacolod City president Em Ang apologized to all the councilors who were no longer accommodated in the fully booked hotels, inns, resorts, and motels in this capital city.
Some of them opted to find a place in nearby local governments, like Silay City, Ang said.
Accommodation establishments, including resorts, in Bacolod have a total of 2,600 rooms, said Ang. Registered PCL National Meeting delegates reached 2,625.
Ang said she and PCL-Negros Occidental president Valentino Miguel Alonso (Kabankalan City) agreed not to let their respective delegates undergo preregistration so they would no longer be booked in hotels and give way to others from farther places.
Among the delegates who opted to spend the night back home were those from San Carlos, Sipalay and Kabankalan cities and Candoni and Hinoba-an towns, and Iloilo City.
Ang said she sought help from Maria Rica Bueno, director of the Department of Tourism’s standards and regulations office, in encouraging investors to put up accommodation businesses in Bacolod.
Bueno was one of the speakers in the three-day National Meeting.
Aside from the lack of sufficient rooms, there were no major problems in hosting the PCL National Meeting, Ang said./PN
