ILOILO City – The trips of Bacolod City-bound fast crafts from here were again cancelled yesterday after the state weather bureau issued a gale warning around 5 a.m.
Iloilo City-bound fast crafts from Bacolod City were also not allowed to set out to sea, according to Lieutenant Commander Ramil Palabrica of the Philippine Coast Guard-Iloilo.
Sea vessels below 250 gross tonnage were not allowed to depart from their ports due to very strong winds that stirred big waves.
“However, the trips of motorboats plying the Iloilo-Guimaras route were not cancelled,” said Palabrica, noting the calm Iloilo Strait between Iloilo City and the island province of Guimaras.
But should there be a need to cancel trips, that would be enforced, stressed the coastguard officer.
Bigger roll on, roll off (ro-ro) vessels were allowed to travel, and so was fast craft Ocean Jet 7 that was at 250 gross tonnage.
Affected fast craft passengers had the option of taking Bacolod City-bound ro-ro vessels at the port in Lapuz, this city or the port in Dumangas, Iloilo.
As of 5 p.m., the gale warning of the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration covered Guimaras, Iloilo, Aklan, Antique, southern coasts of Negros Oriental and Negros Occidental, the northern and southern coasts of Occidental Mindoro including Lubang Island, western coast of Batangas, northern coast of Palawan, Northern and Eastern Samar, eastern coast of Leyte, Southern Leyte, Bohol, eastern coast of Cebu, and Siquijor.
“Kung may gale warning bukas most probably may cancellation of trips na naman,” Palabrica told Panay News yesterday.
He also advised fishermen to avoid setting out to sea./PN
