BACOLOD City — Following recent alarming school shooting incidents involving minors in other parts of the country, Mayor Greg Gasataya has warned city hall employees to properly secure their firearms and keep them completely out of children’s reach.
Gasataya issued the stern reminder during the flag-raising ceremony at the Bacolod City Government Center on Monday, September 21, urging government personnel with licensed firearms to strictly observe safe storage protocols.
The mayor’s call stems from reported school shootings in Zamboanga City and South Cotabato, where minors allegedly gained access to service or private weapons owned by their parents, who are government employees.
“Ensuring weapons are properly stored is a critical responsibility, especially to prevent unauthorized individuals and children from accessing them,” Gasataya stressed.
Alongside gun safety, the mayor also cautioned city hall workers against the improper use of emerging digital tools, including Artificial Intelligence (AI). He reminded employees that both physical weapons and modern technology require high standards of accountability and ethical conduct in public service./PN
