BACOLOD City – Militant group Kadamay-Negros joined the national protest demanding the National Housing Authority (NHA) to distribute among homeless residents in the city the seemingly abandoned housing projects for the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) in the province.
Ireneo Langinos, secretary-general of Kadamay-Negros, said more than 2,000 units of NHA housing projects in the province are “abandoned” and “in deplorable state.”
Langinos added that only eight units of the housing projects are occupied.
“How can the members of the PNP and the AFP avail (themselves of) such projects when the units are very far away with no facilities and amenities? Worse, majority of the houses are already beginning to deteriorate,” Langinos said.
He added that the housing projects were unoccupied for more than five years.
Kadamay-Negros will try to negotiate with the NHA by submitting the names of homeless urban poor residents in the city, Langinos explained.
He said they will demand that the housing projects be distributed among the urban poor before the units deteriorate totally.
