BACOLOD City – Libel cases against former Barangay 35 village chief and drug suspect Manuel Huelar are being readied, according to Provincial Legal Officer Jose Marie Valencia of Negros Occidental.
Valencia said Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. called for a team of lawyers to handle the filing of separate libel cases against Huelar after accusing former and present government officials of being involved in the illegal drug trade.
According to Valencia, Marañon will file a case in Bacolod while his son, Sagay City councilor Chrsitopher “Atoy” Marañon, in Sagay City.
Rep. Juliet Ferrer (Negros Occidental, 4th District) and husband Jeffrey and former La Carlota City mayor Demi John Hondrado will also file libel cases against Huelar in La Carlota City, added Valencia.
Meanwhile, Task Force Kasanag (TFK) asked the help of the Office of the President to expose the identity of the person who allegedly “influenced” Huelar’s accusations.
Valencia welcomed TFK’s initiative saying, “It’s positive for us in the provincial government, but we are not privy to the actions of the group.”
Meanwhile, Vice Gov. Eugenio Lacson – who took a drug test to disprove the Huelar’s accusation that he is a drug user – said he is consulting his lawyers if they can file a perjury case./PN
