MANILA – GlobalPort Batang Pier bucked the continued absence of star guard Terrence Romeo to score a 101-76 victory over Blackwater Elite in the 2017-2018 PBA Philippine Cup last night at the Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay City.
Sean Anthony led the way with 22 points to go along with seven rebounds and five assists.
With the win, Batang Pier tallied its second straight victory to improve to 2-2 win-loss slate.
Stanley Pringle chipped in with near triple-double numbers 17 points, 11 assists and eight rebounds while Kelly Nabong contributed 16 markers, seven boards and five assists.
Batang Pier opened the match with an 11-4 lead on three early triples by Anthony. The Elite trimmed the deficit to 8-11 but Batang Pier pulled away anew with back-to-back treys from Pringle.
The Elite managed to trim the deficit to 23-28 but Batang Pier had another scoring run behind inside hits by rookies Michael Juico and Joseph Gabayni and triples by Anthony, Nabong and Pringle for a 61-37 lead at the half.
Batang Pier broke the game wide open further in the second half with conversions from Gabayni, Lervin Flores, Yousef Taha, and Jonathan Grey for its largest lead of the match at 31 points.
Rey Mark Belo led the way with 17 points while Michael Digregorio added 15 markers, built around four three-pointers, for the Elite which suffered its second straight loss to slid down to 2-3 win-loss card.
