MANILA – Reigning Philippines Football League champions Ceres Negros FC is not yet done with its retooling in the offseason. It snagged Philippine Azkals defender Amani Aguinaldo.
The 23-year-old Davaoeño formalized his move to the Negros Occidental-based football squad earlier this week after receiving his release papers from Global Cebu team.
However, the former Far Eastern University Tamaraws football team member will still not be able to play for Ceres Negros at least until in the middle of the year as he is still recovering from a knee injury.
“I want to be better and I feel playing with great players at Ceres Negros and playing in top competitions like the (Asian Football Confederation) Cup gives me that chance to grow,” said Aguinaldo.
According to Ceres Negros manager James Dinsay, Aguinaldo is a welcome addition to the team “as we aim to retain our PFL title in 2018 and venture to new heights in continental competitions.”
Aguinaldo earned 31 caps for the national team and has been a veteran of the Philippine leagues and the AFC Cup. He has been a vital cog to Global since 2013 and has heavily contributed to their success in the last few years.
Aguinaldo will be the fifth new addition for Ceres Negros team after recently signing up Spanish goal keeper Toni Doblas, Mike Ott and former JP Voltes Marikina players Sean Kane and Takumi Uesato.
“They’re all good players but my expectation from them is that they would be professionals and always give everything for the club to stand a chance of repeating, if not surpassing, what we’ve achieved,” said Ceres Negros head coach Risto Vidakovic./PN
