Grade 7 student dies, grandmother hurt from Leon electrocution

ILOILO – A tragic electrocution incident claimed the life of a Grade 7 student and left her grandmother injured yesterday morning in Barangay Tacuyong Norte, Leon town.

Leon police identified the fatality as alias “Nene” from the said barangay. Her grandmother, identified only as alias “Lina,” 59, a widow, sustained injuries but survived the ordeal.

The two were reportedly walking from their former residence to a newly built farmhouse about 50 meters from the barangay plaza when the accident occurred.

According to initial findings, Lina accidentally came into contact with a low-hanging live electrical wire. Her granddaughter tried to assist her and was also electrocuted.

The elder victim lost consciousness but later managed to regain awareness and call for help from bystanders.

The minor was rushed to Aleosan District Hospital in Alimodian town, but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician at around 9:50 a.m.

Authorities were currently conducting further investigation into the incident as of press time./PN
