ILOILO City – Iloilo is hosting yet another national event – from October 4 to 7 – as tourism officers from all over the country gather here for the 18th Association of Tourism Officers in the Philippines (ATOP) National Convention and Pearl Awards.

The Department of Tourism (DOT) Region 6, the Provincial Government of Iloilo and the Iloilo City Government has welcomed over a thousand delegates composed of tourism officers and local chief executives with their respective Tourism councils and barangay officials.

DOT 6 regional director Helen Catalbas earlier said that her office is in full support to this event, ensuring that Western Visayas’ hosting will be an unforgettable experience for the delegates and awardees of the ATOP.

“Hosting big events like the ATOP National Convention and Pearl Awards is an opportunity to showcase the best tourism practices, products and services of Western Visayas”, Catalbas noted.

DOT 6 committed to provide welcome lei reception at the Iloilo International Airport, Iloilo City Port, Guimaras Jordan Wharf and Bacolod City Port during the arrival of the group, promotional materials to be included in the convention kits and hosted dinner during the Pearl Awards Night.

Catalbas added apart from the provision of welcome leis and promotional materials, DOT Region 6 will also facilitate/coordinate preparations and arrangements of the group’s emersion/tour activities and disseminate Pearl Awards entry forms to all LGUs in the region, among others.

The ATOP Pearl Award aims to celebrate the best of the Philippine tourism industry and have five major categories: Best Tourism Event, Best Tourism-Oriented LGU, Best Tourism Month/Week Celebration, Most Outstanding Tourism Officer, and most Outstanding Tourism Council/Club/Organization/Association./PN
