Grandmother, grandson die in Moises Padilla hacking, stabbing incident

BACOLOD City — A 91-year-old woman and her 26-year-old grandson died following a hacking and stabbing incident allegedly triggered by a dispute over money in Sitio Balangigan, Barangay Guinpaan, Moises Padilla, Negros Occidental, on October 17.

Police identified the elderly woman only as alias “Edelberta” and her grandson as “Christian,” a laborer.

Initial police investigation showed that an argument broke out between the two at around 5:30 a.m. after the grandmother reportedly refused to give her grandson the money he had requested.

The dispute allegedly escalated when Christian hacked his grandmother on the right side of her head and right hand.

Upon witnessing the attack on his wife, the woman’s 84-year-old husband, identified as alias “Carlos,” reportedly grabbed a knife and stabbed his grandson several times in the chest, abdomen and head.

Christian allegedly retaliated by hacking his grandfather on the right side of the head and right hand.

At around 6 a.m., a passerby reportedly found Carlos lying near the doorway of the victims’ residence.

According to police, the elderly man told the passerby that he and his wife had been attacked by their grandson and that he had also stabbed the suspect.

Carlos then instructed the passerby to inform his children and barangay officials about the incident.

Personnel of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office subsequently transported the three individuals to the Moises Padilla Municipal Infirmary for medical treatment.

However, Edelberta and Christian were declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

Carlos was later transferred to a hospital in Bacolod City for further medical treatment.

Police said an investigation is ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident./PN
