MANILA – Green Archers United (GAU) Futbol Club said it will be sitting out in the upcoming Philippines Football League (PFL) season after failing to get the media mileage promised to the team last season.

In a statement, GAU came to a decision not to be on the pitch after consulting with its sponsors and a careful assessment of the values of the team.

“We were hopeful that the media coverage promised in the 2019 Philippines Premier League PPL/PFL season would materialize. Unfortunately, this did not happen and has put in question the viability and sustainability of fielding a team and participating this year,” the GAU said.

After ruling the 2018 Weekend Futbol League Elite Division, GAU made the return to top-flight club football competition when it signed up for the supposed inaugural Philippine Premier League season.

However, when the Philippine Premier League (PPL) swiftly fell out after just one night of action, PFL absorbed GAU but failed to make the promise of providing media mileage for the team.

Despite not competing in the PFL, GAU said it will proceed with its other projects in line for this year.

“Green Archers United will continue the various other football projects & programs which we have built over the past 10 years in cooperation with our sponsors as well as some new initiatives we have in mind that will have greater impact to the development of Philippine Football,” it said./PN
