ILOILO City – The Iloilo Economic and Development Foundation, Inc. (ILED), composed mainly of Ilonggo businessmen, welcomed the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency’s (PDEA) report that the Iloilo City Hall was negative for illegal drugs after a “surprise” inspection on Oct. 12.
“This is a welcome development for Iloilo City and to our group’s efforts to debunk notions that illegal drugs are prevalent in our city,” said ILED chairperson Narzalina Lim.
The group is optimistic that this result would “encourage other investors to put in their money in our business-friendly city.”
“We hope that the local business industry will continue to trust in our city and in our public officials in this drug-free environment,” said Lim.
The inspection was done in relation to the Executive Order No. 85 issued by Acting Mayor Jose Espinosa III.
Under the EO, any official, employee, job order or contractual who may be found in possession of illegal drugs or illegal paraphernalia during the surprise inspections will be subjected to administrative disciplinary proceedings aside from the usual criminal case.
Recently, ILED launched the “Proud to be Ilonggo” campaign to help sustain and amplify the economic growth that the city and the province has achieved in the past decades.
Lim said the “Proud to be Ilonggo” campaign is aimed at lifting up the pride of the Ilonggos to take responsibility for their own community./PN
