ILOILO City – A total of 90 beneficiaries completed their training on urban gardening after 12 sessions or three months.

The beneficiaries came from various sectors including the youth, drug surrenderees, indigenous peoples (IPs), farmers, Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program recipients, schools, and Bureau of Jail and Management Penology (BJMP).

“After completing the trainings on season-long vegetable production topics, they are now equipped with the knowledge on farming, land preparation, transplanting, plant maintenance and pruning,” said City Agriculturist Romulo Pangantihon. The initiative served as “training of trainers.”

“They will be the one to teach other beneficiaries within their respective sectors,” said Pangantihon.

The City Agriculturist’s Office will also guide the recipients when they conduct their own training.

“This program aims to help residents on vegetable farming and at the same time this will also benefit them to provide sustainable livelihood in a way that they can start gardening through their backyards,” said Pangantihon. (Iloilo City PIO/PN)
