GUIMARAS – The Guimaras Capitol Chorale was cited as the best entry from the Visayas during the 6th Government Choral Competition at the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) Main Theater in Pasay City.
The chorale joined the competition to promote Guimaras. It was composed of Guimaras provincial officials and employees.
According to Mary Ann Gamarcha, Guimaras Capitol Chorale member, their group was organized to discover and hone the singing talent of members.
The Sangguniang Panlalawigan later passed Ordinance No. 2015-005 Series of 2015 making the Guimaras Capitol Chorale the official choir of the province.
During the Sept. 13 CCP competition, the chorale sang Ati-ati sa Bukid. The song was about the rich culture, of the Ati.
The choir also performed Anak by Freddie Aguilar and Karaniwang Tao by Joey Ayala.
The Government Choral Competition served as venue for presenting original Filipino compositions and celebrating Filipino art and culture.
There were eight semi-finalists: the Dasmariñas City Teachers Chorale and the Pangasinan Provincial Chorale from Luzon; The Guimaras Capitol Chorale from the Visayas; Bayugan City Educators Chorale, Tagum City Chamber Chorale, and the Davao City Teachers Choir from Mindanao; and Bangko Sentral Singers and Pag-IBIG Fund Chorale from the National Capital Region.
The Tagum City Chamber Chorale won first place. Bayugan City Educators Chorale was in second place and Pag-IBIG Fund Chorale was in third place.
The chorale competition was one of the major events conducted to mark the 116th anniversary of the Civil Service Commission./PN
