JORDAN, Guimaras – The number of deaths in the island province of Guimaras due to coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has risen to four.
The latest casualty was recorded in the municipality of Jordan on Nov. 24 – a 62-year-old male from Barangay San Miguel.
Also a dialysis patient, he died at a hospital in Iloilo City.
As this was being written, the Rural Health Unit (RHU) of Jordan remained clueless as to how the man got infected with COVID-19.
It ordered the man’s immediate family to observe home quarantine while waiting for the results of their real-time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test.
All of Guimaras’ four COVID-19 deaths were from Jordan. The first was a 90-year-old female resident of Barangay Balcon Maravilla. She died at the Dr. Catalino Gallego Nava Provincial Hospital (DCGNPH) on Nov. 7.
The second fatality was a 43-year-old male resident of Barangay Rizal. A tricycle driver with difficulty breathing, he died on Oct. 21 at the DCGNPH.
The third COVID-19 death was a 68-year-old woman also from Barangay Rizal. She died at the DCGNPH on Sept. 2
As of Nov. 25, Jordan’s cumulative COVID-19 cases since the pandemic started in March reached 72. Of these, four remained active after 64 recovered and four died.
Mayor Ruben Corpuz urged his constituents to continue observing public health safety protocols – wearing of facemask and face shield, observing physical distancing and washing of hands with soap and water or disinfectant.
In the whole Guimaras, the island province had 209 COVID-19 cases (cumulative, as of Nov. 25) since March. Twelve cases remained active after 193 cases recovered and four died./PN
