GUIMARAS — The provincial government of Guimaras was recognized by the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) for its strong support and community participation in the implementation of Project R.T.T. 3389, which promotes the voluntary surrender and proper accounting of loose firearms.
Project R.T.T., or Restrict, Track, and Turn-In, aims to help create safer communities by encouraging the surrender of undocumented firearms and strengthening efforts to account for firearms in communities.
According to PRO-6 data, a total of 101 undocumented firearms were voluntarily surrendered in Guimaras, making the province the first in Western Visayas to comply with the project’s objectives.
PRO-6 Regional Director PBGen Randulf Tuaño commended provincial and local government leaders, barangay officials, law enforcement personnel and Guimarasnon communities for their collective support of initiatives aimed at enhancing public safety and maintaining peace and order.
“Kayo ang naging tulay ng ating kapulisan sa mga komunidad. Bawat baril na nailabas sa komunidad ay isang panganib na nabawasan at isang konkretong hakbang tungo sa mas ligtas na Guimaras,” Tuaño said.
Meanwhile, Gov. Ma. Lucille Nava said the successful implementation of Project R.T.T. 3389 demonstrated the importance of collective action in protecting communities and preserving peace and security.
“If we do something together with only one purpose in mind — that is, the protection of our people and to preserve the peace that we have long valued and are proud of,” Nava said.
She added that the success of the campaign should not be measured solely by the number of firearms surrendered or confiscated, but by the number of people protected as a result of the initiative.
“Let this be a reminder to everyone that the true measure of success is not the number of firearms that we have surrendered or confiscated. It is the number of people that we have protected because of this,” Nava said.
The governor also emphasized the connection between peace and the socio-economic development of the island province.
The PRO-6 and the provincial government said the campaign underscored the importance of sustained cooperation among government agencies, law enforcement, local officials and communities in maintaining peace and security. (PIA)
