GUIMARAS – This island province known worldwide for its sweetest mangoes is taking part in the National Mango Festival in Quezon City.
Rose Griesser, president of the Guimaras Mango Growers & Producers Development Cooperative (GMGPDC), said she brought 400 kilos of Guimaras mangoes for the exhibit.
The three-day National Mango Festival wraps up today. It kicked off on May 12 at Eton Centris Walk.
Aside from fresh mangoes, Griesser also brought other Guimaras mango processed products like piaya, butterscotch, ketchup, concentrates, and jam.
Griesser, who owns a mango farm, said her participation in the trade fair is supported by the Department of Agriculture (DA) in Region 6.
Her plantation is a demonstration farm of DA for natural farming practices.
Aside from mangoes, Griesser also grows vegetables and other fruits using natural farming methods.
The 16th National Mango Festival is organized by the Aani Mango Industry Association (AMIA) Foundation.
Aside from the exhibit and trade fair, participants can learn the latest in mango industry through the seminars on mango processing, mango breeding, global market for mangoes, production of quality planting materials, improvement of post-harvest handling systems, increasing yield and quality, natural pest control for mangoes and other fruit trees, different mango species in the world, and latest technology on mango farming, among others.
Griesser expects a big demand for Guimaras mangoes as the quality is assured with Geographic Indication (GI) seal.
