ILOILO City – The Guimaras Police Provincial Office (GPPO) has tightened its monitoring of the province’s two wharves – the entry points to the island.
The wharves are in the municipalities of Jordan and Buenavista and this is where people entering and leaving the province must pass through.
“We are strictly inspecting people, one way of preventing the spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in the province,” said Police Colonel Pablito Asmod, GPPO director.
Among others, people are required to wear facemasks and observe physical distancing.
Asmod said people entering Guimaras with the intention of staying overnight should present their negative RT-PCR COVID test result.
During a meeting on Aug. 6, the Guimaras COVID-19 Response Executive Committee agreed to impose stricter anti-COVID measures.
“Alarming ang pagdamo sang local transmission sang virus sa mga kaiping naton nga mga lugar diri sa Western Visayas. Kinahanglan naton anay hugtan liwat ang aton mga protocols agud maproteksyunan ang mga Guimarasnon,” Gumarin said.
Under the Enhanced Level 2 Response currently being observed in Guimaras, only Jordan Wharf, Buenavista Wharf and Ro-Ro Wharf in Jordan are the entry points going to Guimaras.
As of Aug. 11, Guimaras had 48 cumulative COVID-19 cases (eight indigenous or local cases and 40 locally stranded individual or repatriated overseas w orkers), data from the Department of Health Region 6 showed.
With zero deaths and 32 cases who recovered, Guimaras had 16 active COVID-19 cases only as of Aug. 11./PN
