ILOILO City – Off-duty police officers are not exempted from the 16-day Asean Summit firearms ban that starts today.
Civilians and off-duty officers violating the suspension of permits to carry firearms outside of residence will be charged, warned the Police Regional Office 6.
“Uniformed personnel, when off duty, are not allowed to bring their firearms. Otherwise, pwede sila ma-file-an sang kaso,” regional police spokesman Superintendent Gilbert Gorero told Panay News.
Director General Ronald Dela Rosa, Philippine National Police chief, has approved the request of the Sangguniang Panlungsod for the gun ban in view of the city’s hosting of Asean Summit meetings.
“Whoever brings any firearm during the gun ban will be charged,” stressed Gorero.
But plainclothes police officers detailed during the Asean meetings will be allowed to carry guns. They will be issued documents indicating their exemption, Gorero said.
Iloilo City is hosting the following Asean meetings:
* 22nd Senior Officials Committee for the ASCC (SOCA) Meeting from March 6 to 9
* 17th Asean Sociocultural Community Council (ASCC) Meeting from March 6 to 9
* 3rd Asean – Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Good Regulatory Practice Network Meeting from March 14 to 16
