ILOILO – Residents in some villages in San Enrique town reportedly left their homes for fear of armed men asking for food and money.

Several barangay officials reported about these armed men more than a week ago, according to Mayor Mediatrix Fernandez.

Nagasubay sila sa kilid sang suba sang area sang barangay Catan-agan, Mapili and Garita nga naga-boundary sa Banate,” Fernandez said.

Reports said the group, comprising four to seven armed men, would knock at houses and ask for food and cash.

The latest sighting of such group was on Thursday around 10 p.m.

A resident spotted “more or less” four armed men gathered under a tree in Sitio Palanog, Barangay Garita. Another resident said these same people ask households for rice, canned goods and money.

Several residents — mostly women and children — already evacuated their houses and moved to the barangay proper or other areas to stay the night, with only the men left in the households.

Fernandez said she reported this to Senior Superintendent Harold Tuzon, director of the Iloilo Police Provincial Office.

Nagaka-alarm ang mga tawo. Ginakulbaan,” she said, adding that she was clueless on the identity of the armed group.

Tuzon sent officers to San Enrique in coordination with the Regional Public Safety Battalion and the Philippines Army. They have yet to identify the group but “tuluy-tuloy ang pag-cover natin doon sa areas.”/PN
