ILOILO City – Policemen recovered firearms, a grenade and ammunitions from a man whom they claimed was once close to slain suspected drug lord Melvin “Boyet” Odicta Sr.
The following were seized from the house of Remo Peñaredondo, 32, in Barangay Walang, Lambunao, Iloilo:
* 12-gauge shotgun
* a hand grenade
* a rifle grenade
* 13 steel magazines for an M16 rifle and its bandolier
* holster for a .45 pistol
* empty shells of M16 rifle and .45 pistol.
Lambunao policemen raided Peñaredondo’s house on the strength of a search warrant that Judge Guilljie Delfin-Lim of the Regional Trial Court, Branch 22 issued.
They did not recover the .9mm, .45 and .38 pistols and M16 rifle listed in the search warrant, said Chief Inspector Dennis Pamonag, commander of the Lambunao police station.
“Basi napalusot niya na ang wala na-recover nga firearms. Kay daan malakat ka pa mga 150 meters sa karsada antes makalab-ot sa balay niya,” said Pamonag.
According to Pamonag, Peñaredondo was a friend of Odicta but in 2015 Odicta’s wife Meriam charged the suspect in court for estafa. This severed their friendship.
“Bata-bata na siya sang una ni Odicta galing daw naglainay buot kay gin kasuhan na siya ni Meriam sang estafa,” said Pamonag.
The police officer, however, clarified that Peñaredondo was in the Lambunao police’s list of suspected drug personalities.
It was only recently that they knew he was once connected with Odicta, explained Pamonag.
