ILOILO City – Police officers yesterday found firearms and ammunition in the house of Noemi Jablo in Sitio Little Janiuay, Barangay Cubay, Jaro district — much to the Desamparados barangay captain’s surprise.
“Wala ko kabalo ngaa may amo na nga mga pusil da,” Jablo said in a radio interview, denying that they owned the firearms. “Nakibot lang ko ya nga ara na sa idalom freezer (ang mga pusil).”
Operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) searched the house around 5 a.m. on the strength of a warrant issued by Judge Loida Diestro-Magputol of the Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 28.
Subjects of the warrant were a .45 pistol, a 12-gauge homemade shotgun, an M16, and other firearms of unknown caliber and their ammunition and accessories.
But they found only a .38 pistol, a .45 pistol and four ammunition, said Senior Superintendent Marlon Tayaba, CIDG regional chief.
Only Jablo was in the house at the time; her husband Rasty was not around, Tayaba said.
Jablo said they already surrendered their firearms to the Jaro police station but could no longer recall when exactly.
“They shall prove [her claim] in court,” Tayaba said of Jablo’s denial.
Jablo also said her husband went to Manila before his brother, Carcar Jablo, was shot to death on Oct. 8. “Pagpatay kay Carcar, wala na di sia mga four or three days [na]. Nakalakat na sia,” she said.
The 27-year-old Carcar was shot to death by motorcycle-riding gunmen while he was at his chicken litsonan business.
On the same day CIDG operatives raided the house of Bonifacio Prevendido Gregori Jr.’s live-in partner in Barangay Navais, Mandurriao.
Subjects of the warrant issued by Judge Gloria Madero, first vice executive judge of RTC Branch 29, were a .45 pistol, a 12-gauge homemade shotgun, among other firearms, ammunition, and assemblies and accessories.
“We recovered only the 12-gauge shotgun and several ammunition,” said Tayaba.
Bonifacio Gregori is the son of Barangay Captain Remia Prevendido Gregori of Barangay Bakhaw, Mandurriao and nephew of suspected Prevendido drug group leader Richard Prevendido.
His younger brother, Bonie, was arrested in a buy-bust operation in Tobias Fornier, Antique also yesterday./PN
